| If you may be the target of a criminal investigation and are contacted by the authorities, do not say anything. Contact an attorney immediately. Your attorney will discuss the matter with you and advise you whether to make a statement or not. You have the right to remain silent. In some instances a detective will ask you to come to the station and answer some questions, even though an arrest is inevitable.
